Tricot // 3 |
First thing you need to know about me is that ever since hearing Living After Midnight and Painkiller in high school, I've been the biggest ho for drum intros. I loooooove drum intros. So this album immediately unquestionably has my heart. Now I believe I purchased this on bandcamp when one of the labels I follow on there was having a sale. And bandcamp sales are essentially my equivalent of Steam Sales, complete with the never playing the games part (never listening to the album).
Tricot’s 3 is very very smooth math rock with big, almost J-Pop choruses. It’s very cool and damn near every song has something about it that’s unique and makes me want to keep coming back. Like the ending of Wabi-Sabi that’s ripped straight out of a Sunny Day Real Estate song. The stop and start about 2:08 into Pork Ginger: huge! That breezy sway of Echo is to die for. The dynamic range of 18,19 made me question whether the song had changed before checking. This album is just great, it’s charming, and definitely deserves your time if you’re into math rock, indie rock, j-pop, emo, or anything along those lines. And if you’re looking for a single, try Melon Soda.
