An Album a Day Keeps the Doctor Away #15: Yellowcard - When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes

Day 15. Monday. Comin in hot. Number 859. Yellowcard. When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes. Let's go!

Yellowcard // When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes

Hey look it's that band who's seminal album I’m not the biggest fan of. What could I possibly think of this record? Surprise I think it's pretty great! It actually kinda slaps. It’s fucking fun pop punk. Everything I was expecting from that New Found Glory album but didn’t damn get.

And here’s the thing. IT’S DOUBLE TROUBLE TODAY BECAUSE I went and listened to Southern Air as well. Southern Air isn’t in this list because I don’t own a copy of it (but I do have a Spotify subscription). I listened to Southern Air as well because I wanted more of When You’re Through Thinking, and because they were released only a year apart I figured they’d be similar. And boy was I right so I have been truly blessed by the pop punk gods today.

These two are both the best Yellowcard album (of those I’ve heard). All you nerds out here reppin for Ocean Avenue need to have a word with yourselves. If someone gave me When You’re Through Thinking (or Southern Air) when I was in high school, Yellowcard probably would’ve been my favourite band.

When You’re Through Thinking is banger after banger and old mate on electric violin fits so much better on it than Ocean Avenue. He plays legit fuckin catchy leads all over this album. For You, & Your Denial is brilliant; big chorus and big violin lead with crunchy rhythm guitar underneath. Life of Leaving Home w/ that solo ooooh god it’s nice. Soundtrack is the best summer night track this side of Summer by Fireworks. Hell I even like what could’ve been the bland ballad-y track HangYou Up. It’s on some All Time Low Missing You shit, but more mature. And has it has a smooth as fuck chorus.

And the best part is all this can also be said about Southern Air except the guitars are a little crunchier. Southern Air, the title track has big stompy Switchfoot vibes (yes please). Surface of the Sun is a better In Florida than ADTR wrote. And Rivertown Blues has that old school galloping skate punk drum beat going on w/ guitar solo! HOW DAMN GOOD. Yeah do yourselves a favour and listen to both of these albums pls and thank because (outside of my daily album) these are gonna be all I listen to for the next hot minute.
