Ceres // We Are a Team |
Last night I listened to Viv In the Front Seat for the first time. Not sure why. I think it might’ve come on in a shuffle. But uh, not to mince words or anything, that song is fucking brilliant. I’ve only listened to it about 25 times today but here it is, already being easy contender for my favourite song of all time. So I made the executive decision to listen to the whole album.
This is one of the best emo/alt rock albums I’ve ever heard. Especially out of this hell country. It’s a positive album. It’s a love album (yes, eat your heart out HIM). It’s catchy damn song after catchy damn song and it’s all washed in this really lovely glistening, post rocky twinkle/guitar delay or some shit. It’s pretty this album is pretty. It’s uplifting. There’s not a sad sounding song on this. Sure some of the songs are tear-jerkers but it never comes across as negative.
Marriage is definitely a mission statement for the album, thematically: I’m gonna get happy / I’m gonna show them deep down somewhere in my heart there’s love / The flowers are blooming it’s all that you smell.
And from there it’s Collarbone, 2011 and re-arranging the empty space in ones’ heart. It’s Dancing Patterns, dancing patterns on pain, wanting to die a happy man, and possibly the best guitar line of the album. Viv In the Front Seat should honestly be the biggest song on the planet. It’s a poppy emo song with a huge chorus and an even bigger ending (WITH DAMN BLAST BEATS WTF).
This is just really, really nice music. It’s tender and comforting and earnest and you can just tell that old mate means everything he’s singing about. Everything here fits, there's not a single chord out of place. Big <3 at this album and at Ceres.
