Top Ten Singles & EPs of 2018

Hello hello to the few people that may or may not be reading this. I am not dead. But so much for whatever schedule I made for this thing hey? Look work is a lot and the last thing I want to do when I get home, after a long day of meticulously crafted help desk articles and email replies, is meticulously craft more writing.

That being said, ya boi is currently in the middle of his Christmas leave and has had enough time to focus on fun writing again. So over the next couple of days, I hope to post a couple things. My Top Ten Singles & EPs, and albums of 2018 because it's about that time again isn't it. I'd also like to post some more poetry but we'll see how that goes!

And I guess without further nonsensery, this is the first of those couple of things. My ten favourite singles & EPs of 2018.

A Crack In Everything

Leonard Cohen once crooned,
There is a crack in everything,
that’s how the light shines through.
Or something to that tune.

And I’ve been told that if walls could speak,
they’d tell me what to do.
But Nasreem Mohamedi took a photo in 1972.

The skirting board; a crack in the floor
just before the wall, from which only darkness seeps.
Like the hands of time, a twilight over life, that creeps.

Cohen may be right, but if so his cracks are few.
And maybe it’s not the walls,
but the cracks in the floor
I should be listening to.

An Introduction

Right then, this is finally happening. I've been wanting to start up a proper blog for a couple years now. I've done some faux-blogging on tumblr since July of 2013. That however devolved purely into me re-blogging shit memes, cute animal videos, and the occasional post about music. This however--the blog you're currently reading this on--is going to be legit.

Most of what you will read on here will fall into three categories: music reviews (live / studio releases), poetry, and creative non-fiction. This content may be infrequent here, at least to start with. My plan is to start by gradually uploading from a backlog / archive of content I've previously written. This will be done in chronological order. Within the month I aim to start peppering in current content amongst the older stuff. And eventually, once said archive has been exhausted, I'd like to reach a point where I'm putting up something quality at least once or twice a week.

However, in the spirit of rebellion, I'm immediately going to fuck that plan right up.

Within the next day I'm going to upload the first thing I (n)ever wrote. This being a list of my favourite albums from the year of 2013. This list has existed merely in photograph form (without any words) on my tumblr for the last five years almost. Long has it been a desire of mine to revisit this list. The list shall not be altered; all the albums will remain the same. This will more be an exercise in attempting to understand the mind of myself circa 2013 (read: why in the good god damn I ever thought Fashionably Late was a good album).

And that's that for now. That first post shall be up some time within the next 24 hours. For now though, I'm off to make dinner. And for the 13th week in a row, dinner shall be pizza. Pizza forever.
