An Album a Day Keeps the Doctor Away #13: Death Cab for Cutie - Plans

It is now Saturday, my friends. Today I’ve listened to album #817: Death Cab for Cutie’s Plans.

Death Cab for Cutie // Plans

Lemme start by putting it out there that Death Cab have always been a singles band for me. Except for Transatlanticism, that whole album is great. But other than that, singles. I got Plans from, wouldn’t you have guessed it, Lifeline Bookfest, at one point over the past four years. And since then I’ve listened to What Sarah Said (because New Halloween) and I Will Follow You Into the Dark because, well, I don’t know, I just liked the sound of that song okay (and single). Never listened to the full album. UNTIL TODAY! Weird, it’s like that’s kind of the theme of this series. Am I still going to point it out every time? Well yeah probs. Anyway, Plans.

Yo this album is niiiiice. It’s very nice. I loooooove the atmosphere of Summer Skin and Different Names for the Same Thing is equally as pretty but with a very nice Sound of Settling romp to its second half. The cosy, campfire-y vibe of I Will Follow You… fits so nicely as the centrepiece of the album. The piano at the end of Your Heart Is An Empty Room is on some absolutely gorgeous Dusk (Dark is Descending) piano type shit and I'm all about that.

I really do quite like Death Cab’s brand of indie rock / pop and surrounding suburbs and this album makes me feel like I do need to listen to more of their albums in full. And that’s good news cuz there’s five more of them in here somewhere. A bitch has Kintsugi, Narrow Stairs, Thank You for Today, We Have the Facts, and Something About Airplanes from a mix of Lifeline Bookfest and libraries so get hype for those whenever they turn up, and listen to Plans!
