An Album a Day Keeps the Doctor Away #10: Tall Ships - Everything Touching

Yo we at double digits fam! Day ten. Not even like ten. Exactly ten. Wild. Today Google has blessed me with number 604. Tall Ships' Everything Touching - a welcome reprieve from whatever happened yesterday.

Tall Ships // Everything Touching

Tall Ships man <3 I miss this band. There’ll probs be a few bands over the next 1012 albums that aren’t together anymore and it’s always gonna make me sad. Especially if the bands were good. And Tall Ships were good. And I got a lot of feelings about them. But I never listened to Everything Touching in full. I listened to a couple songs (T=0, Ode to Ancestors, Gallop) but never gave the full album the time it deserved. And as an album, it’s much more math rock than the mix of Foals, The National, and post rock that went into Impressions. Looping, ear worm riffs are this album’s specialty and boy do they go down well. Also, this album is smarter than you. A lot smarter. And it has no problems letting you know that at points like Ode to Ancestors, Phosphorescence, and the absolutely grand af closer Murmurations, with its drum looped drum effect intro, and synthy wall of sound over anthemic gang vocal crescendo. Thank you for that one Tall Ships, very Distant Satellites of you (even though Distant Satellites came out two years later). A good, smart, indie, mathy, rock album. Do give this band a listen because they were brilliant and are missed constantly.
