So here's the thing with this band: I don't know much about them and I'm very much a newbie to their discography. The only album I've listened to that isn't this one is the debut, [A→B] Life. And I know that album's good. But I feel like I've only scratched the surface of how good it is because it's kind of unlike most things I listen to. Like sure it's post hardcore-y, and alt-rocky, and indie, and arty. But I feel like this band are in a league of their own when it comes to this stuff. And this album here, Ten Stories, has definitely dialed back on the post hardcore aspects. But I like it still. I think I might even like it more than [A→B] Life. I think Ten Stories has a very Over the Garden Wall vibe and I'm very much about that. Especially on tracks like Grist for the Malady Mill, Elephant In the Dock, and Bear's Vision of St. Agnes. Those, Nine Stories, and Cardiff Giant are definitely my standout tracks here; the latter for that raucous I often wonder if I've already died / or if the 'I' is an unintelligible lie crescendo. And I like Nine Stories for it's kind of dancey, almost ballroom-pomp orchestral instruments in the background (and also that very obvious Jacob's Ladder reference).
That's kind of all I have. I don't exactly have a frame of reference for this band or this album. I just know I like it a lot (and if anyone has further recommendations hit me up) and that it sounds like Over the Garden Wall at points.
